DECEMBER 4, 1985

Wednesday

In about 10 minutes, I am going out to lunch with a guy I met through Voice Class named Tony. He’s not in my class but he takes privately from Judy. He’s just a nice guy who asked to take me to lunch when we found out we both worked downtown.

I’m expecting a call from Steve confirming which night he can go see Scrooge onstage with Mark Hall as part of the cast. (I believe he has a major role.) I’m going with Judy, Bill and Steve. But we haven’t decided which evening because Steve hasn’t called. He’s a lawyer and very busy. But he’s considerate, he should call before the day’s out. He better!

I don’t really see Arnold anymore. We haven’t even said hello this week. We haven’t even talked since Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Oh well!! Such is life! I would like to remain friends, but maybe he’s too uncomfortable, or maybe he’s just been busy. I never understood this part of a relationship, anyway. If that’s what you call ours.

(2021 comment - I do remember being in Arnold’s apartment before Thanksgiving, and he was talking to his sister on the phone and he asked me about what kind of weather we have around Thanksgiving? I said “Most of the time it’s really beautiful, and I never remember a rainy day”… and then it rained.

DECEMBER 6, 1985

Friday

Arnold just came by and asked how my Thanksgiving holiday was. He thought he’d come by and find out. (Actually, I don’t think he would have come by except that I saw him out in the hall just before and waved hello.) I then asked him how his holiday was. I had to offer the information that mine was not the usual fun, but nice. I said it was just Mom, Dad, Nana and me and that Nana kept nodding off during lunch. Then… he said “I had a tendency to do that when I ate with the three of you.” I couldn’t believe he said that. In response, I said “Yeah, but she’s 89, she has an excuse.” He said that he felt 89. I believe he does. That’s a shame. You know, I’m almost sure he was kidding when he said that about my parents, but the problem is… I am only ALMOST sure, never fully sure. I sometimes think he has a problem.

DECEMBER 10, 1985

Tuesday

I found out that Judy is not going to be able to go see Scrooge with Bill, Steve and me. She has something that night and she forgot about it. It’s a shame. But, I guess I can handle two men. I DO want the four of us to do something though.

DECEMBER 13, 1985

Friday

Well, Bill got a date for tonight, so I don’t have to handle two men. Just Steve.

I have laryngitis. It’s better today than yesterday (as far as talking goes) but it hurts more today. I was supposed to sing in a Christmas program Sunday for Bill’s pipe organ club, but it looks like I’m not going to be able to. That makes me sick. Being sick makes me sick. I’m still going tonight; I don’t FEEL really bad, I just barely do. Tomorrow night is our Sunday School party. I guess I’m not taking care of myself well enough. After January, I’m going to Dr. Levinstone for a blood test and checkup. (Levinstone was my neurologist.)

Oh well. Tonight will be fun.

Next week, Tony Chang (a guy I met through Judy) and I are going to see Seasons Greetings, a Christmas play wherein he knows all the actors, personally. Tony has done professional theatre (Shakespeare in the Park.) It’ll be fun.

(don't remember Tony Chang AT all!)

DECEMBER 23, 1985

Monday

I’ll tell about this past weekend.

FRIDAY - I went to see a hilarious play called Seasons Greetings with Tony Chang. I have never seen anything SO funny onstage. We had a good time. Tony’s a nice guy, but I have a feeling he’s all bottled up about things.

SATURDAY - About 4:00 p.m., Kevin came over and we went to the liquor store to buy wine and bourbon. Wine for John’s Christmas present and bourbon for the eggnog. Afterwards, we went to Chili’s on Greenville Avenue. Kevin and I love to go there. I enjoy it more in the day than at night.

Later, we went and grabbed Bradley and headed for my place. Soon after, Nancy came over then Barry followed. We had a nice time, watching It’s a Wonderful Life and visiting. I did a lot of laughing. At midnight, Kevin and Bradley left (Nancy had already gone) and Barry stayed until 1:30 a.m.

We had a great talk. You know, there are times when both of us want to get back together. But I had to bring up back down to earth and remind him why it’s better for us to stay apart.

1) I need someone very strong. Someone who’ll take care of me and things that go wrong around the house. I’m strong when people are concerned, but small, trivial things get to me. I never really felt I could lean on Barry.

2) He’ll never understand my love for music. I really need someone who loves it also. (2021 comment - who’da ever known that he would have a son who played Luminere in Beauty & the Beast? My goodness - he’s surrounded by music and plays)

Oh well. No use digging up old bones.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I’m off the the next two days.

Tonight I’m going over to DeeAnn and Brian’s.

(2021 comment - The singing at a club for automated music might have been the start of Bill and I doing Silent Movies and "Sing with the Bouncing Janie" - Singing oldtime Gay Nineties songs - we did that numerous times through the 80's and early 90's for clubs, benefits and charities)
