DECEMBER 1981

December 3, 1981 Thursday

Tonite Doug & I went Christmas shopping. I met his parents, they’re darling. I’ve already bought many gifts.

1) Dee Ann - Crystal unicorn

2) Mom - Gold earrings (so far)

3) Dad - Matching Pierre Cardin tie & handkerchief

4) B.C. & Therese - Chili bowl set

5) Mary and John - smokey, wood lamp (candle)

6) Margaret - Play-grown up shoes (so far)

Mom & I talked tonite about men & women, how men whether they admit it or not, rather his wife be a virgin when they marry. I got to thinking of Carl when she said that. Mom added that if a man wanted something from me, he really didn’t like me. I feel she’s mostly right, but what about Carl? Does that mean he disliked me? After all, he didn’t kiss me for 4 dates. My gosh, that’s more respect than I’ve gotten from anyone. Then he turns around & breaks up coz I won’t give him more than a kiss. I don’t understand.

I guess I led him on when we “slept together” (literally). But I was truly sleepy, & told him so. I guess that was a mistake, but at least I didn’t do anything that I may not regret.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

HELP!

I hate to think he had no real care for me.

December 19, 1981 Saturday

Tonite I was invited to Peggy Polazzi’s annual Christmas party. I wasn’t looking forward to it much. Usually, I am a big partyier, but with the way I’ve been feeling lately, & after the Choir party last nite, I was quite tired. What I really felt like doing was calling Keith (Rice) up, go out to eat somewhere nice, cozy & peaceful. Maybe have a glass of wine, then to his apartment to talk & get to know each other better. (literally). Well, I called Keith to see if he was going to the party, & he said no. He wanted to stay home. Well, I finally convinced him to come get me, if it wasn’t any good, we’d leave. (He was also in a very relaxed mood).

We weren’t at the party 20 minutes, when we were ready to leave. Neither Keith nor I had eaten supper. We managed to tell everybody that we were gonna eat then come back. We never went back.

We first went to El Fenix. Then we went to Flannigan’s to see if Cam & others had shown. They hadn’t. We danced for about 30 minutes and left. We finally went to his apartment. (Like I originally wanted to do).

The whole evening was quite nice. I would have liked not going to the party at all, just out to eat & to his apartment, but this was a good start.

I’m not crazy about him or anything, but I’d really like to go out with him on an official date. I am going to be very cautious because of what happened to Thomas & me. I would hate to lose this friendship with Keith.

I am SO sleepy!

It’s 4:07 a.m. (I was at Keith’s until 3:15)

1) Keith (I guess)

2) Thomas (I guess)

I’m not enthralled with anyone.

At this point (Fall of 81?) I also joined Richland Night Choir. That's where I met Keith Rice and Doug Cross. I believe many of us were in both day and night choirs. (All directed by Jim Henderson)
