Fabulous February - 1980

February 3, 1980

Last night Scott, Vera & I went to the Colonel Ball presentations. Jill Kennedy (alto in Showboaters) got Most Talented. Mark Tyler got Colonel. (Highest honor). I saw Phillip up there. He seemed a little distant. Mike Shipley got Most Likely to Succeed. Doug Barnes also received Most Talented. (2020 comment - Vera, Scott & I met in History 101 with Chuck Delafield - they started dating almost immediately - we also met a guy we called “Aggie” coz he was wearing an Aggie shirt. To this day, they all come every year to my annual birthday dinner.)

Afterwards, we went & saw the movie “Time after Time” starring Malcolm McDowell & David Warner. I absolutely loved it! (Mary Steenbergen - first time I ever saw her in anything) Malcolm M. is an Englishman, & so debonair. I think he’s adorable. It is definitely the best movie I’ve seen in ages. I enjoyed “The Electric Horseman,” but not near as much as “Time After Time.”

Mary & John are back together. They just needed time away from each other. I think I’ll go to bed early for once. It’s 11:40 p.m.

Five hostages were helped to escape by some Canadians. Let’s pray for the rest.

February 9, 1980

Today it finally snowed! Scott, Vera, & Doug (a friend of Scott’s) came over & we played in the snow. Doug came up from Corpus Christi to visit Scott. That’s all Scott talked about was how great Doug was, & how Scott, Vera, Doug & I were gonna double date. No such luck. Doug was okay, but not my type. He would have been really cute if he’d cut his hair some. To me, he came across insincere. He’d be real gracious & kind one minute, & a real slob the next. He called Vera & I “dear” all the time, & that bugged me. To tell you, partially the problem was that he flirted with Vera more than me.

A new guy is rising on my mind lately. His name is Travis Davis. He’s in my piano class. He also has DeeAnn’s mom for English.

Oh well!

Tomorrow I need to start my History.

February 10, 1980

Tonight, Alex & I went to the Park Forest & saw a double feature for a dollar. Two Alan Alda movies. 1) Same Time, Next Year (I have already seen it twice) & 2) The Seduction of Joe Tynan. I enjoyed them both. Joe Tynan made you think “What’s more important, job or family? It’s an excellent message. Right now I feel very grateful. I love all my family and friends.

February 19, 1980

Today was a wild day. First of all, in Piano Class I made my first “B”. (that upset me). After that, Travis & Charles Darling (both in Piano class) & I went into Garland to take Charles to some car repair shop. We had fun. They tease me all the time. What’s funny is that neither one teases me when they’re by themselves with me. Especially Travis, He gets real quiet. Charles stays pretty much the same. Guys will do that sometimes. It’s hard to tell if Travis is interested or not, it’s hard to tell with guys, but I think he at least thinks about it. About like I do. Oh well! It’s snowed two weekends in a row, & it may snow again this weekend. Today I actually wore shorts. It rose to 80 degrees today. That’s Texas for you.
