FEB & MARCH Winds Change 1982

February 11, 1982

Today is Kevin & Kathleen’s birthday. Both are 21.

I never did write & tell about my WHOLE birthday. Well, Cam gave me a surprise birthday party. I was truly surprised! I’m so glad. I had a tremendous time.

A guy, Rodney Paris, wrote me once right before my birthday & again yesterday. I met him with Kim Bebe at one of my parties. He’s a sweetie! (Rodney in all 3 pics)

My new job is GREAT!

(more about surprise party - we were supposed to go to see “On Golden Pond” and Cam (and his darlin’ mom) had that party instead. I remember having a few people meeting at his house for movie, so Carolyn -Mrs. Craig (I called her Mom) had a lil’ cute cake with candles in it and sang happy bday and OTHERS were hiding in the house the whole time! It was truly amazing how quiet they were! When they all popped out and said “Happy Birthday!” I said “OH are we ALL going to see On Golden Pond?” everyone laughed. Nope we were having a big party. “SOMEONE” - not sure who were late and coming in and Cam was freaking - but they had all popped up about the same time. It would’ve given it away tho - can NOt remember who that was.)

February 28, 1982 Sunday

Tonite I went to Richland’s Choir Concert. It was really good. (remember, at this time -I had quit Richland to work full-time at A&A.) Jim H is still a jerk. I bluntly can’t stand the man. We all had fun though. We went to Steak & Ale afterwards. (2021 comment - actually, adored him… he (2x) actually was furious w/me for quitting choir… ?? - AH - artistic people w/ their artistic ways) - LOL)

Robert Bevis is probably my favorite person right now. He’s so cute & cuddly. There’s a strange attraction between us that’s hard to explain. (2021 Oh Janie…) Of course, at Magic Time Machine we kissed, but we were loaded. Since then, it’s just been little games & flirts. I know I’m not really in him as far as boyfriend goes, but I am slightly attracted to him. I tell myself that he’s too short & too young, but then he’s so dang fun & cute. (I love his parents!)

Cam, Robert, Allison & I are going to the cabin Easter weekend. That’ll be a blast!

I miss Dee Ann! Someone I can talk to about everything. I don’t feel very happy tonite.

I’ve gotta go to sleep!

(2021 comment about A&A job and beginning of independence - Looking back now, I “knew” I had a to get out of that house - 605 W. Vista.. So quitting college and getting a real job was the first step. I didn’t realize it so much then but now I do. It was around 1 year since Alex committed suicide, and Mom & Dad were tightening the reigns even at 21. So I went to a job employment agency and signed up for interviews. I had kept up my typing skills and did have experience at Marmon Motors -secretarial, and did a bit of computer/acctng at G.A.R.C.)

(It was lovely getting that job at the Diamond Shamrock bldg. 21st Floor. I worked with a pool of wonderful ladies and we were tight friends for over 7 years!)

3-28-82 - Letter excerpt from Dee Ann

March 21, 1982 Sunday

It’s 6:10 a.m. and Cam & ROBERT just left. I had a party tonite. It was a blast! I said in my last entry how I was strongly attracted to Robert. Well the attraction is more strong than ever now. We spent every moment together from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. That’s 8 ½ hours of non-stop fun. Not one time did we even think about bickering. March 29th Robert & I are going to the Hall & Oates concert (by ourselves, thank God). We have only gone one place by ourselves & that was to Farrell’s & to see “Time Bandits.”

To put it bluntly, I find myself crazy over Robert. He probably is the cutest person I’ve ever met. Not handsome, sexy or rugged, but cute/darling. He is by far one of my favorite people I have ever met. (We can talk about anything). (2021 comment - well, not everything - cough cough)

On the next page, I wrote a poem (or really just what I’m feeling) about or for Robert.
