Monday
Well I had a very interesting weekend. I had taken off last Thursday and Friday, so I had a mini-vacation. Friday I went shopping a bit with a friend, ate out at lunch and spent the night making music tapes of 40’s and 50’s music for a Yesteryear dance we had at church Saturday night. It was fun. The actual dance was a blast. We had hula hoops, dance and Best Costume contests. I brought Sherri and we won first place in the dance contest. That was great! I danced quite a bit with Louis and Keith. Even a couple of times with others.
She Wants to Dance with Me - Rick Astley
I’m starting to feel a little something for Keith. We have good talks. When it was time for him to leave (he had to work the night shift at 10:00) he said “Janie, come out with me.” I followed him in the hall he said very seriously
“The ox is slow, and the Earth is patient.” He put his forehead “ALMOST” on my head when he said this. THEN HE LEFT!

Now, what in the world does that mean? Is that crazy or what? Now I do know it’s a line from High Road to China which we had just seen the Sunday before, and that’s one of his favorite movies. (He always said it was full of wisdom.) I tried to question him on it last night and he said as long as it made me think, that’s what mattered. That’s all he’d say. Am I the ox or the earth? Or does it even mean anything? I hate AND love things like this!
The next day in Sunday School, Keith and I kept giggling and laughing together. At one time, he said "A woman should be barefoot and pregnant." VERY seriously! What? But then just a bit later, we were talking about when we feel the closest to the Lord - and he said "Colorado! "When I am standing on a mountain (esp. in Co,) - how can you NOT feel/know God?" Keith Wallick! What a connundrum you are!
Mom, Dad and I went to eat Chinese food in Eastgate -- They had one of those Chinese calendars and mine sign? was Ox - so I told Mom and Dad about Keith saying that. Dad said "He's making you think... he's trying to get your attention." Mom said "Oh - he likes you!"
My reply - NAHHH!

Last night after church, we checked out The Golden Child and watched it with Don, his roommate, LaReshia, a girlfriend, Keith and me. Afterwards, Don went to bed and LaReshia left.
Keith was talking about how nice it was outside and he got his bicycle. I said “Oh, that looks fun!” He suggested getting Don’s bike and going riding. Don’s bike had a flat so we went walking. We walked to a nearby Park (Central park at 10:30 at night) and had a really good talk. We stopped in the football field and talked for quite a while until we started getting cold. He’s really easy to talk to. To warm up, Keith started running across the football field and I was laughing! I told him I used to cheer there many times when I was a Memorial Rebel cheerleader. Next thing I knew, he had run UP the poles and on the Goal post!!! Shouting and yelling - “I Am Tarzan!!” and I quietly said to myself.. “And am I your Jane.?”
(2022 comment - I distinctly remember us talking about marriage, what we expected/wanted, etc. Also - Keith already owned his own house and I was impressed by that. He also already had it furnished and even bows on his curtains. Totally impressed!)
When we walked back, he said he is starting to realize I’m very different than what he ever thought . Because of my traveling, etc. he thought I was some high society type and he never felt like we’d ever have anything in common. Also, only seeing me on Sunday, made me look like I dressed really nice all the time. Now he feels differently. I explained a lot to him and he, I think, decided I’m regular after all. People are funny when they perceive something very differently than what it really is. Talk about not judging a book by its cover? Anyway, it was all very interesting.
When I left, I tried to get to his house a myriad of different ways. I was always getting lost getting there. I realized I could get there from Shiloh, Garland Rd. and Miller Rd. When I achieved all paths to his home, I thought "UH OH" I think I'm pretty interested in him!

oh! Friday night I tried to get friends to go see Beelejuice and no one could. So I went by myself. It was great! I kept thinking "this would be more fun with a group!" I think Michael Keaton can do anything. So creative!
I have a job interview tomorrow (YAHOO!) at Blockbuster Video Corporation (how apropos’) at 8:15 a.m. Wish me luck! It would be fun working at a movie place. It’s not far from home either; Miller and Plano Rd.
(2022 comment- I remember buying several $60 or so dresses and suits for job interviews. I REALLY prayed and wanted this particular job. I even wrote a thank you letter for the interview and quoted “I have Always Depended on the Kindness of Strangers.” (Blanche Dubois’ - Streetcar Named Desire.)
