Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - February 1981 Pt. 2

February 8, 1981 Sunday

I just spent one of the most wonderful nites of my life. Carl left this morning about 8:45.

You would not believe my (day) evening. First of all, I spent most of the day at B.C. & Therese’s. Rob was there and we had a blast.

Later, Carl & I saw The Competition with Richard Dreyfuss and Amy Irving. It was wonderful. It really started me out in a romantic mood. Afterwards, we came to my house (Mom and Dad were gone), lit a fire and had some wine.

We set up a blanket on the floor in front of the fireplace. (It was about 11:30 p.m.) He held me all nite until about 6:00 a.m. Then we went into my room. I have never been so close to someone like I was with Carl. The best part is we were together all nite and he never attempted anything. It feels so good to have someone right beside you when you wake up. Something about sleeping (literally) with a man’s arms around you is so secure and warm.

Boy, I think I could be married easily. Some people may say I’m crazy, but I like it so much better when a guy doesn’t try anything. Then you don’t have to worry with pushing him away or living with the guilt of letting him succeed. I think it shows true love & respect on the guy’s part. I’m totally disgusted with pushy guys (after Kevin A).

But that’s all behind me. Now that I’m 20, I’ve set a strong resolution for myself. It’s called will power. I know I have a lot of it. I just have to prove it. In most cases, I have more will power than any other girl I know. I’m proud of it.

Anyway, this has been, I can honestly say, the most romantic nite of my life.

I feel like I should say Thank you to someone.

Oh well! Thank you to whoever! (Carl?) (not sure I’ll add this to my open journals, but I’m finding myself having feelings for each of these guys as I write about them. Right now - I have a huge crush on Carl…. Funny or crazy - I don’t know.

(2021 comment Rob died many years ago of cancer… he remained one of Bryant’s closest friends.. He was a great guy).

February 9, 1981 Monday

Today was a good day. I’ve been on Cloud Nine since the weekend.

Vera Called too. She said Carl & I are good together. I was so glad to hear that. After Cam’s rejection, I felt a little funny, but now I realize he’s just jealous.

OOOOOOOH! I like Carl! I hope Dee Ann likes him. I think she will.

There’s a guy in Choir, Mark. He seems to be interested in me some. He’s sweet & cute. But he seems so young (pictured on right w/Cam & Rex)

That’s why I like Carl. He’s so mature. That means a lot to me.

Gotta go to sleep!

East of Eden has been great. I’m going to Carl’s and watch the last segment, Wednesday nite.

(2021 comment - TV had a well-made mini-series of East of Eden with Jane Seymour and Father and sons, Timothy Bottoms and Joseph Bottoms. It was detailed and right along the book.)

February 12, 1981 Thursday

Last nite I went over to Carl’s to watch the rest of “East of Eden” (it was great). You know, I really feel something great with him. He touches me and I get chills. I really don’t know why, but something won’t let me get too crazy over him. I think it’s past experiences. (BINGO-2021)

I talked to Mike Clark a long time tonite. We talked about taking Kathleen & Kevin Q out Saturday nite. We’re seeing Incredible Shrinking woman and then to Chili’s so we can wish Carl a happy Valentine’s Day.

Carl made me a little upset last nite. Not angry really, just worried. He thinks coz I’m 20, I should be more my own person instead of doing what Mom & Dad want all the time. But what he doesn’t understand is that they’re 10 times more lenient than any of my friends’ parents. (girls). Shoot, Sherri has to be in by 12:00 a.m. I get to stay out until about 2:00 a.m. & sometimes later when something special is going on. I hope he doesn’t bring it up again. Coz if he does I may get mad. I love my parents dearly & I think they’re mostly fair. Don’t get me wrong, he likes them a lot , he just gets to do what he wants so he expects the same from me.

Since Saturday nite, I have been on Cloud Nine. In the best mood. I kinda wish Mom & Dad went out of town more often.

Gotta go!

I start tap dancing tomorrow!

Sherri & I have been extra close lately. Right now (while Dee Ann’s away) she’s my closest friend.

I’m gonna get Carl something for Valentine’s Day but I don’t know what yet.

February 14, 1981 Saturday

Today was the best Valentine’s Day I ever had. First Mary & I went out to eat at El Chico’s and shopping.

Tonite Kathleen, Kevin & I went to see The Incredible Shrinking Woman. (It was kinda cute, but somewhat silly). Afterwards, we went to Chili’s (where Carl works) where later we met Mike and Vera. Carl came over every once in a while and visited. We all had a wonderful time.

After that when it was time to go all of 5 of us (not Carl) went and looked for Carl’s car. When we finally found it, we stuck Valentines all over it. I also bought him a card & a button. The button said “Kiss me.!!! It’s Valentine’s Day.” It’s cute. I had so much fun.

Tomorrow Carl & I are gonna see “East of Eden” & “Rebel Without a Cause.” Double feature at the Granada.

Sherri got me the new Manilow album for a belated birthday gift.

Tonite I realized how much Carl is meaning to me. But still no strings. I don’t want him to think I like him too much.

Valentine’s Day

I decorated Carl’s car all over with valentines. It was a blast!

Saw this great double feature. Then we went to Judge Roy Bean’s.
