Gotta Have Faith by George Michael

SEPTEMBER 1988

After what happened with Keith - forEVER contemplating "should I date others? is he THE one?" and great reflection, I decided to go to the Deputy Dawg party in Austin hosted by Scott and Mark Noack. I needed to have some wild abandonment fun/maybe dancing? and get away from drama.

DEPUTY DAWG PARTY IN AUSTIN

Labor Day weekend - Mark’s brother, Scott was having an annual party in Austin called “Deputy Dawg.” Sherri & I stayed at Rodeway Inn in Austin. It was a completely “college-like” party and a BLAST! When I left to go pick up Sherri, - I thought to myself “This may be the LAST “partying” type of party I may ever go to. Because when I get back, I might/or WILL be totally committed to Keith.

I met a guy “Stick” who is Kyle Hotchkinson (Kathleen’s Hotchkinson’s brother.) He was crazy! Kathleen is married to Chris Knagg and VERRRY straight. They are quite opposites. I don't really remember what we did but laugh, laugh and LAUGH!

A few of us (I'm 98% sure Don was with us) Sherri, Cathy Flynt? Louis? - went to the Capitol grounds after 10 at night or so. We were climbing on the statues (truly nothing to drink!) and some policemen came and told us to get home. I told them I had no idea where home was. ha! Don said he did - so he got us back to Scott's. This was really all sooo fun. I thought Scott was really cute, but heard he was already divorced... but oh so cute!

Keith, Don and I went to Wyatt’s on Garland Rd. They made me laugh sooo hard while I was trying to eat a spinach salad and I couldn't get it down! Second attack of “Spinach!” Don laughed so hard he was snorting and so was I!

(2022 comment - they just finally tore that building down.. sure wish I had taken a pic before.)

By the way, when I got back from Deputy Dawg/Austin party, I stayed home that Sunday eve/night, but Keith called to welcome me home. He wanted to come over but I was beat. I was truly glad to hear from him, but somehow still skeptical? that we would work. I did tell him I missed him..

Monday night in Dallas, a large group from the Austin trip met at a restaurant. I rode with Don. We had fun. I still found Scott Noack attractive, but he talked of his divorce and daughter and really thought that was not where I wanted to "go" at this point.

Sept. 10 - Moon over Parador - sneak with Don. Mark N and a fun guy named Gary Murray were there. Keith had to work.

(2022 comment - Gary was a frequent movie goer and later a great film critic in Dallas. One day in 2018 or so - after reviewing film director John Landis, Gary was crossing Mockingbird Lane around 10:00 p.m. slowly on his cane. A car hit him, killing him instantly and ran away. They never solved his murder.)

September 18, 1988

So we did a fun and strange thing. Some of our group wanted to see A Fish Called Wanda and others wanted to see the re-release of Bambi. So we had a Big group go to see an early evening movie of "Fish" and we ate at Chili's in Garland and then went to see "Bambi."

This was the first time Elaine came with us and she got to meet "the gang." I had been talking about all of them for some time and told her I was dating Keith, but unsure.

She told me later that she really liked him and thought he was lively and fun.

(2022 comment - After this night, I started really relaxing, having fun and trusting Keith. Having fun was not the issue... Pretty evident I didn't want to get hurt - yet again)
