JUNE 4, 1985

Tuesday

This past weekend was one of the best (if not the very best) weekend I’ve had since before Barry and I broke up. Well, that’s too long! Here’s how it went.

FRIDAY - This night was the least exciting over the weekend, but fun. After work, I met Barry at his apartment and we met Randall at the soccer stadium to see the Dallas Americans play. (Professional, but boring, I like inside soccer better.) After that, the three of us went to Barry’s and played records, danced and acted c--ra--azzy! It was fun! I was tired, though, and I was home by 11:30.

SATURDAY - First thing! I was at KVIL Tickets by 11:30 a.m. to get half-priced tickets for La Cage Aux Folles that night.

Right after getting the tickets, i went straight to Pecan Knoll and put my deposit down on my apartment. Of course, I haven’t officially been called to tell I’ve been approved yet, but the landlord foresaw no problem. My address will be 1035 E. Centerville #501, Garland, Texas 75041. My new apartment faces the morning sun (instead of the evening) and is located by the side of the tennis courts. I’m very proud to be living in this complex. - or soon to be living there. I can move in the last few days of June, but my rent doesn’t start until July 1. That also includes my electricity. I probably won’t be able to move in, though, until the weekend. I’m SO excited! Mom and Dad told me last night that I can have two of their nice wooden chairs for my countertop table, I can paint them or whatever I like. That will be good. The only two things I really need is a dresser and pots and pans. I am using an old dresser of Pam’s, Kathleen’s OLD roommate, and a pasteboard, green lingerie dresser.)

After all that, I went to Mom and Dad’s and told them the whole good news and visited with them for a while. I got Dad’s binoculars for the show that evening since we were going to be seated at the next to the top row. I went on home about 3:30 and took a nap, but had trouble from all the excitement.

At 6:30, Kevin, Robert and a little later, Keith showed up. Then we drove around downtown and around until the time to be at the Music Hall. The show started about 8:25. I have to say it was excellent! It was really a lot better (and funnier than I expected.) Peter Marshall, surprisingly so, was excellent as George’ and Keene Curtis was a riot as Albin. (2021 comment - for those who may not know, this is the musical version of The Birdcage.

Afterwards, the four of us went to Andrew’s, where we continued to laugh. The whole night was full of laughter. We saw Peggy Polazi there. She’s a girl from back in Richland/college days who was a riot and she and I wrapped ourselves in tinsel (one New Year’s Eve) and sang “Oh Christmas Tree” to a restaurant-full of people at Denny’s who joined in with us. It was funny. I still have the tinsel.

We ended up at Keith’s apartment where Kevin fell asleep and Robert, Keith and I continued to talk and laugh and sometimes, I do believe, we dozed off. I was in bed no earlier than 3:30 a.m.

SUNDAY - About 12:45, Barry came by Mom and Dad’s house (the first time he’s been over there since we broke up) then a little while later, Robert came by and the three of us went to Randall’s to go boating and skiing. Randall really devoted his attention to me and I played it friendly, but cool. He tried to teach me how to ski, very patiently, but we all felt the water was too rough because of the wind. My skiing consisted of staying in the water and rolling over on my side. But, we had a blast! I’m sore even today from the boat jumping whitecaps. I’m also pretty sunburned. But not TOO bad. When all were riding in Barry’s truck later to get food at Sonic, I felt Randall kissing my head many times. It was nice to have the tender affection, but I’m really not interested. It makes me feel good to know someone really loves me and I felt that all weekend. I bet Keith and especially Robert told me that several times Saturday night and Randall showed me Sunday. I didn’t see one girl (except Mom) all weekend. ;)

I ended the weekend by having Randall drop me off at Mom and Dad’s house we watched The Tony Awards. It was a really good show. Big River received Best musical. It’s a musical about Huckleberry Finn. It ran away with all the awards. Roger Miller wrote the music for it and he also received an award.

What I really like is when they do older show productions. They had a salute to two composers, Jules Styne who wrote Gypsy, Sweet Charity and Funny Girl among others. And they did a big tribute to Andrew Lloyd Weber (my personal favorite songwriter today) who wrote Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita (my favorite) and Cats. He is currently working on a musical called Song and Dance. (2021 comment - which I will see in 1986 - foreshadowing) - He is, in my opinion, the modern day Mozart. He is a true genius. I have seen Evita twice and I will see Jesus Christ Superstar this summer.

This was such a good weekend, I am still talking about it with joy.

Next Sunday, Kevin, Sherri, Robert, Nancy and I are going to Six Flags. That’ll be fun!

JUNE 8, 1985

Saturday 11:03 p.m.

All day today I’ve been with Robert Bevis. We went to the country where his parents have some land (30 acres.) We had a good time. It was a scorcher of a day, but fun.

On the way there, for some reason, I felt like really opening up & yacking. I couldn’t shut up. I started talking about Keith and how his mom really likes me and would want me for a daughter-in-law. He told me that last night. (Keith, Robert, Kevin & I saw “Gigi” at the summer musicals, then to Andrews.) - (It was horrible, btw - we almost left at intermission… Louis Jordan played Maurice's part and he had no charisma - 2021 comment)

Anyway, I went into detail to Robert about how all my guy friends’ parents like me, but it’s strange that I am not attached. I don’t know, I just felt very talkative and honest. Robert didn’t mind at all, it’s a good thing. I told him all about the exact times I got with (or should I just say kissed) Thomas, Keith and Roger and I said that I wouldn’t even mention him (Robert.) He thought all this was interesting. Especially since they’re all gay. He asked me “What’s with you and gay guys?” (2021 comment - Thank you Robert B for being the first to just ADMIT my dear friends were gay! Truly thankful for this conversation! Apparently, according to Robert saying later - I ran a "Match.Com" for Gays - oh well!)

I told him I’ve wondered that myself. I’ve had BIG crushes on each of these guys. Then I went on and told him things about me and Randall and Barry. Keith told me that he didn’t think Randall and I made a good pair, but he’s only going by looks. (I personally think Randall is cute.) Robert said he really liked Randall, and Kevin likes Randall. Oh well! Enough on all that! (2021 - I actually think by this time, Keith Rice told me and confided in me multiple times about his conflict with being gay or not…)

Tomorrow Kevin, Robert, Sherri and Nancy are going to Six Flags. So I better get some sleep. Kevin nas NEVER been before. I Can't believe that!

More Later!

Sunday

Well, today Kevin, Robert, Sherri and Nancy went to Six Flags. We had a great time! Kevin had never been before & he loved it. It’s kinda funny that he’s never been before and lived here all his life. Anyway, we had fun, I still have my all time favorites like The Mine Train and Log Ride, but I’m now c-Razy about Roaring Rapids and I enjoy the Judge Roy Scream more than ever this time. On the whole, I spent right about $25 today. I really shouldn’t have spent it (I can’t afford it) but I’m glad I did.

Well, I need some sleep!!

Tuesday 11:33 p.m.

Tonight Mom, Dad and I went shopping. She bought 4 place mats and napkins. They bought me some clear sandals, 2 fry pans (I don’t have any) and a spatula and a crockery pitcher with wooden spoons. It was all nice. I saw my Oriental rug and wicker towel stand tonight. They're great! I’m not sure if I like the shower curtains though. They seem to be too apricotty and not peachy. Oh well! We’ll see!

Wednesday

Tonight Mom, Dad and I picked up Aunt Margaret from the airport. She lives in Florida. I was in a real good mood when I saw her until she started asking me questions.

“How do you feel?”

“Great!”

“Are you working hard?”

“Yeah”

“Are you in love?”

PAUSE… “NO”

She didn’t know that Barry and I had broken up. Then she acted shocked and said..

“Are you dating someone?”

“No.”

“Is he dating someone?”

“No.”

“Then ya’ll otta get back together.” And that was the end of that conversation.

And now I feel very depressed! :(

JUNE 16, 1985

Sunday - Father’s Day

& Marg’s 6th birthday

Today was a nice day about 3:00, John, Mary and kids came over. At one point, Mary and I went out by ourselves and looked at the apartment - my new one. We went inside. She really liked it.

At 6:30 or so, B.C., Barbara and kids came over. We all had fun. I took all the kids (except Caroline) out back and we played kickball. They were all pretty good.

This whole weekend was good. Friday night Kevin, Keith, Sherri (a friend of hers, Jim), Robert, Mom, Dad and I went to see Zorba, The Greek. It was really good. We went to Andrew’s afterwards. Mom and Dad had a ball, running around with me and my friends.

Now for what’s really been on my mind. Saturday about noon, Randall came by my parents and we went running around. When he first came in, he hugged me and pecked me on the lips. He said he missed me. Then we rode by my apartment andI showed it to him. Then we went to Town East and I got a frame for the picture I gave Dad. It’s a photograph I took of the capitol (from Barry’s and my trip to Austin.) Then we went back to Mom’s house (they were in Ennis) and I had lunch (pot pie) there. Oh, on the way to Town East, Randall and I had a good talk about marriage, divorce, etc. We were laughing when we said this, but we both feel that we’re the only ones really okay and everyone else have the problems. We were kinda joking and kinda not.

Anyway, we watched some t.v. and kissed some. When I took my pot pie out of the oven, he said something about when he came home at night would I put a pot pie in the oven for him? I asked him what he said and again he said, “If we were married, would you cook a pot pie in the oven when I get home?” It was a simple question on his part. And on my side, it blew me away. I just said “Sure.” and then laughed. We ended up spending the whole day and evening (w/Barry) together. We had fun.

Have no idea who Kenneth is? There was a Ken at church -but quite a bit younger and not called Kenneth (figured out later guy on the DART bus)
