IS SHE FRENCH? - OCT-NOVEMBER 1987

OCTOBER 22, 1987

We had a fun meeting with Flying Solo Class Sunday night after church. It was at Pat Arrington’s house. I absolutely adore this group of friends!! I did find out that Cathy Flynt (quickly becoming my GREAT friend, Bill’s daughter) and Mark Noack started dating while I was in England. WOW! That was a surprise! (I think Louis might be upset.)

OH! When we got back from England at the airport, my luggage was missing! It took nearly a week to get it back. Always was glad we lost it after the trip and not during!

Oct. 23, 1987

Mark and I have been doing really well and he seemed really glad to see me when I got back from England... We watched the movie Sea Hawk with Errol Flynn and Claude Rains.

But.. I guess it's already over... He left - never heard from him...??? No conversation...

Went to see LouAnn's kittens, her cat just had. Thinking seriously of getting one.

I am preparing for what should be a FUN weekend in Austin with Mark N., Louis, Cathy & Don. SINGLES!

October 31, 1987

What a great and FUN weekend! Mark Noack's brother, Scott and a huge amount of people (and us) stayed in his apartment and people were all over the floor sleeping. Well, not much sleep was had...

I remember Mark in the other room laughing maniacally - like a crazy man.

During the day, Louis, Cathy, Don & I went walking around apartments and Austin neighborhoods. Cathy said "OH! Jeanie Runion lives here somewhere!!" So... me in my not so shy fashion, started asking everyone we saw... "Do you know Jeanie Runion?" We were laughing sooo hard. One guy was working on his car, looking under his hood, and he appeared - a bit toothless - "IS SHE FRENCH?" We thought that was a riot and still talk about it...

At night sleeping was something else. Don, Louis and I all slept on the fold-out couch. I had someone's feet in my face. We laughed all night. "PANTIES!!"

Saturday Night we went to an Austin bar/dance club where EVERYONE was dressed up. I again pulled out my flapper outfit. I danced all night with different guys, but mainly with Don and Louis. Ken Woolsey (Don's brother) was there and I think he's kinda cute, but we danced just a couple of times.

A guy named Jon Schneider - yep, but NOT the actor - kept asking me to dance and bought me a couple of drinks. He was blonde with a moustache - truly - HA

Scott Noack was dressed as that Alien caterpillar? machine thing that Sigourney Weaver stood in to fight aliens (get pic) -- It was amazing! All of a sudden out of nowhere came a huge replica of the Alien screaming across the dance floor. Scott and his yellow machine came toward the alien and they had a fight on the dance floor - theatrically speaking. Such unbelievable costumes!! We were mortified when neither one of those costumes received 1st prize. The winner was Freddie Kruger from Nightmare on Elm Street.. really? The caterpillar received 2nd price and Alien #3.

One night (did we stay til Monday?) Our group of 4 went to the state capital building at night and clowned around. We were climbing on statues and just being silly, when some policemen came and told us to get off and go home. I told them home was Garland... they basically said "well wherever you came from go back, this is not a playground." GOTCHA!

Cried all the way thru Dirty Dancing - somehow it reminded me of....

November 3 - Had lunch with Jon Schneider (LOL - not that actor. We met in Austin)

November 4, 1987

LouAnn Campbell’s daughter, Susan and her boyfriend, Sanford, met me at Chili's for later dinner. They set me up with her boss/manager at Chili’s in Casa Linda. His name is Darren Ross.

Judy's "Broadway Show" - Mark was in it. We seemed fine to see each other. He met his wife, Twyla while doing this show but didn't date her until 1988.

Went to Bennigans then to play pool at Speeds

Then we saw Suspect - with Darren

Sherri met Darren at Chili's - she liked him! (2022 - just hit me this was the second person I dated who worked at Chili's.)

November 12, 1987

Mike Burton, Dad's friend and Associate (his family went on the cruise with us) died today. SO heartbreaking!

NOVEMBER 14, 1987

Mike’s funeral was today. I didn’t cry this much when Alex died. I kept looking at Andi and thinking of being 17 years old without my daddy. (2022 - just a few years later, Andi committed suicide. Heard she always had trouble after her dad died.) - so sad

I was pleased that I had Darren come and pick me up and take me out. A part of me didn’t want to go anywhere, I had been crying so much… but he stayed, listened sweetly and then when I was okay, we went to Hard Rock Cafe, Dancing and West End.

I LOOOOVVVED the Tina Turner concert with Level 42 intro band. What a great concert!

I bought the tickets and invited him. (2022 I guess Darren and I went out more than I realized.. He was all about party/football and loud music..)

he tried to not talk about his ex - and I "tried" not to talk about mine (all the songs by Tina Turner and Level 42 really reminded me of John.)

(2022 comment - If I haven't said before, Ann was a friend from A&A. She worked in a different department and apparently, we had a lot in common. In coming journal entries, it is mostly in letter form and many are to Ann.)
