Monday
Well, I know I’ve said it before, but I truly believe this was one of the best weekends I have ever had! Here go details!
FRIDAY - One week before, I met a guy named David Bandman at a wedding. David and I were seated at the same dinner table at the reception. He was a very tall blonde, blue eyed lanky guy. We talked the whole night!!
He had met Kevin Quattlebaum just a few days before at graduation ceremonies. But he is a great friend of Eric Foster’s whom I have always been crazy about. I knew if he was friends with both these guys, he was okay in my book.
Anyway, he called and asked me out for Friday and we had a wonderful time! We went to the West End Marketplace to eat at Dick’s Last Resort. This was a very unusual place to eat. You sit down among many tables of people and eat out of buckets. The tablecloths were butcher paper and they placed bibs around your neck. It was great. The live music was Dixieland Jazz. Oh, David has a degree in Jazz Studies. Pretty interesting, huh? He minored in Piano. How neat! He was a guy full of cute jokes and cute everything. He’s the first really tall guy I have dated since Barry, and he’s taller. David is 6 ft. 2 inches.

We then went into the Dallas Alley where you pay $5 and get into three (some people have said six) different clubs. The Boiler Room - Disco, Froggy Bottoms - Rhythm and Blues, and our favorite that evening, Take Five - which had a group of three black, females who did everything from The Supremes to The Pointer Sisters, even some Bangles stuff. We went around different places but always came back there. It was great!!
After leaving West End, we went to Reunion Tower and had drinks until it closed. From there we went to the observation deck and observed. TEE HEE! We walked around for quite a bit. One time I turned around to go the other way and ran right into him; his neck, actually. When I did, I didn’t move. Next thing I knew, we were kissing. It was nice!!
When we went to the door of the elevator, it was locked. We looked around and NO ONE was around! The observation deck was closed and we were stuck!! We both comically screamed and he grabbed my hand and we started running trying to find an opening. Finally, we found a staircase door. He threw it open and we quickly trotted down the steps, laughing sooo much all the way! Really memorable!
(2021 comment - David had told me before our date, that he was moving to Chicago - the following day, Sunday. He had a band and they were based out of Chicago. TRULY I look at this as one of the Best dates if not THE best - certainly if judging one, isolated date.)

I remember really well going to Andrea's wedding with Randall. We really had fun! At one point, there was a group of Iranian men doing a "Greek/sorta" (well, of course, Iranian) dance. ONLY men! Randall said "Here have a drink," a shot of something, and sent me out on the dance floor with the old men. It was a great memory! And - I also liked how Randall handled it all and knew I'd enjoy that.

Mom, Dad, Kevin and I went to DSMusicals to see Song and Dance with Melissa Manchester. This is the VERY Broadway show that John and I saw "On Broadway" with Bernadette Peters. Tho she's not Bernadette (who is?) Melissa M did an excellent job. I started crying in the beginning and boo-hooed thruout the whole show. Mom and Dad were worried about me, I think... Just SO many memories - you know? What could've been - What if? - SIGH!

I haven’t mentioned my semi-proposal yet. First of all, Randall and I are getting along really well. Definitely better than ever before. We are now on seven months of our relationship. Anyway, we love each other very much. It’s not like me and John, by any means. But at the same time, it’s real, feet on the ground.. Not just complete infatuation.
Anyway, Sunday before last, I admit that I nearly begged Randall to make love to me. I told him that I had been thinking about it for a while and really wanted Randall to be THE one I’m with for the first time. After all, I’ve known him for over four years, (2022 comment - I think we were at 6 years by this point not 4) trust him, admire and respect him, and am incredibly attracted to him sexually. Not too many girls have put that much thought behind their first encounter. I went on to say that physically, it was very safe. When I told him that I wanted him to be the one, his reply was “I want it to be the way YOU’ve ALWAYS wanted it.” This, of course, means that I’ve always wanted to be a virgin when I got married. Why else would I be a 26 year old virgin? It’s certainly not because I’ve never had the opportunity. I proceeded to tell him that it’s okay because I’m never getting married. He said “I wouldn’t say that if I were you, we are getting along pretty well!” with a big smile then a hug. My first reaction was Oh no. He’s more serious than I thought. I love Randall but I’m not “in love” with him.
Of course, my record in the past of being “in love” has been either with a guy who didn’t love me back (Russell), - (2022 comment - well not totally true - when he was after me, I said uh-uh – then i came around fully and happily to be with him, and his heart was somewhere else.)
One who had a horrible temper and was scared of commitment (Barry) and another who didn’t even live here - and we weren’t completely ourselves because we didn’t want to talk or do anything sad because we didn’t want to spoil our time together, our time was so short (John.) You know, I’m beginning to feel I wasn’t “in love” with John at all. I tended to make that relationship into everything “I” wanted it to be; when in reality, it was nothing at all like I thought. Bless his heart! That’s hard for either of us to live up to.
Oh I don’t know, maybe Randall is the most realistic relationship I’ve ever had. I can say one thing, as far as excitement goes with Randall, when we’re NOT together - then we see each other, we’re strangely attracted and I have to either stay away from him or we end up together by the end of the evening.

Well, Oliver North finished his hearings today. He is a national hero. He is very honest and loyal to his country. I was impressed by what I heard. Next Poindexter will take the stand. He is supposed to be impeccably honest also. The media is trying to make this into another Watergate, but are failing to do so. Everyone is for these guys, not against them like Watergate.
