MARCH 20, 1987

Friday

Well, I talked to Louis last night to wish him a good time in Austin this weekend. I won’t see him, possibly, until NEXT Sunday. I hinted around about going somewhere next Saturday night saying I don’t really want to go on the camp-out; heck, I came right out and said let’s go to Betty’s wedding then somewhere afterwards. He doesn’t want to go to the wedding. Then I said well, I could SAY I’m going to the wedding and we can go see Little Shop of Horrors. He just said “Is it still showing?” I gave up. I’ve pretty much decided to go on the campout today. Randall certainly lets me know he’s interested. I need that. When I’m with Louis on Sundays at church and at nights with the Single Adults Group, I’ll flirt up a storm, but I’ve decided the ball is in his court. He still hasn’t seen A Room with a View, and it’s nominated this next Monday night for Best Picture. If that’s still showing, we could go see that. I could call before I see the guys this weekend and if either one is showing, we could go. But I hate to not tell Sherri, Barry and Randall until that close to the weekend whether I’m going or not. I wish we would just not go and do things around here. Then again, if Louis has no interest whatsoever, it would be fun spending two nights with Randall.

Monday

Well, as always, I had a good weekend.

FRIDAY - Rather uneventful. Had Barry over and we watched The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Others were invited, but he’s the only one who could come over. It was a nice evening, though.

SATURDAY -

March 24, 1987

Boy, did I sleep! But first, minor detail! The phone rang at 7:00 a.m. and guess who it was? The conversation went something like this.

“Hello.” (my side VERY sleepily)

“What’s up?” (Can you guess who it was?)

“Well, I’ll be.”

“I thought I’d return your call.”

“What call?”

“Well, Jeff said you called.”

“I didn’t call you.”

“Oh. Well, do you know what day it is?”

“It’s early, very early Saturday morning, 7:00 a.m.”

“It’s one year to the day that we met.”

“Oh, I forgot.” (That was bad of me, I remembered; but, it wasn’t foremost on my mind)

Anyway, the rest of the conversation went pleasantly enough for about 20 minutes. I asked him if he was still seeing the same girl. He barely said yes. He disregarded that conversation quickly. (Speaking of him, Glory of Love is playing right now.) I told him I was dating Louis. I must tell Louis this. I think he’ll be flattered. I told him that Louis and I play a mean game of Silver Screen Trivia and that Louis knows a lot about movies. John’s reply was “Something I knew nothing about.”

He talked a lot, I semi-listened, as before. When it was time to get off, he said he’d call me again some time. Whatever, I thought. I hung up and rolled back over and went to sleep directly.

(2021 comment - Weird - The way I remember it is when he asked me what day it was? I said “Trash day?” – wonder why he was really calling me? )

(also knowing that we reunited for dinner in just Dec. 2021... wonder if having lunch/dinner in 1987 would have alleviated sooo many future "what ifs" and given me closure that I needed soo desperately. Tho at this point, I wouldn't take anything for our dinner in December'21)

That night, Scott, Nancy and a friend of theirs, Dominick, came over and we went to “On the Border” restaurant then dancing at “Encounters” on top of Doubletree Inn. That’s a really nice dance place. We had fun. Dominick is really nice, but there’s no attraction. I saw Phyllis and Ken Griffin there and Doug and Sharon Ballard. Doug and Sharon are so cute together. For the first time in quite a while, it made me wish I was in love again. Dancing is a lot of fun, anyway, but even moreso, when you’re in love. It’s so much more united and personal. One problem there is… as far as John and I went, anyway, we were never dancing long before we were ... back at the apartment.

I danced the longest I have in ages with Dominick since there was not a single spark between us.

We closed the place down and went to Denny’s for breakfast. It was a fun night and I wasn't in bed until 4:15 or so.

SUNDAY - I slept until 12:30 or so. Walt called me and wanted to go play tennis. I said sure and went on an empty stomach. We had a great time. I hit the ball pretty well and my arm is still killing me today. We went to K-Bob’s for lunch-dinner and did a lot of laughing.

We came back and stood on his balcony and visited until Randall drove up. He came on up and Sherri came shortly after. I talked to Walt mostly, though. By the time Barry came up, we went to a movie Outrageous Fortune. I loved it. It was so much fun.

Wednesday

I had a rather interesting time last night. Walt invited me up for pizza (I had just sat down in my robe, with fish sticks and green beans in front of me) and I accepted after a bit of hesitation. I decided he really wanted me up there AND I had so much fun on Sunday with him. Well, I did last night also. We developed a little more relationship than “Nice guy upstairs who takes Church girl downstairs out to dinner.” We watched about two movies with jazz in the background and no sound on the t.v. Pretty crazy. Somewhere in the middle of “Hamburger, The movie,” he asked if I was into back rubs. I said sure. I rubbed his shoulders and back (with his shirt off) while sitting on his rear. I did it for quite a while, then we swapped. The most intimate we became through all of this is I rubbed his hands and occasionally scratched his legs. Kind of funny. Why guys are leary of me, I’ll never know. (Except John - He made his desires known. of course, I like that!) ;)

MARCH 30, 1987

Monday

I had a wonderful weekend and a few days off. I went with Barry and Sherri to Ft. Worth and had a blast! To start a bit back when the vacation started…

(2022 comment - We went to the Zoo, Omni Theatre in Ft. Worth)

OSCAR RESULTS

Platoon won Best Pic over Hannah & Her Sisters - bummer. It also beat The Mission and A Room with a View (2022 comment View and Hannah are two of my all-time FAVE movies. This probably contributed to my disdain for Platoon.)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT - DeeAnn had called me earlier and told me she was pregnant. PREGNANT! How strange. My best friend from high school is pregnant. I spent the night with her because Brian was out of town. We had a good time. I didn’t have to go to work the next day, so it was great. (She did have to go to work though.) She is due November 10.

THURSDAY - I drove home from her house about 10:30. For the sake of me, I can’t remember what I did the rest of the day. Oh yeah! Sherri, Barry and I went to see Lethal Weapon with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. Great movie!

That night Kevin and I saw Hoosiers. That was a good movie also.
