MARCH 2, 1984

Friday

Last night I took Barry to Red Lobster and Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor. I paid for Red Lobster and he paid for Farrell’s. It was a very nice evening.

Today I called and got tickets for the Billy Joel concert. That ought to be great! This is the first concert that I feel both Barry and I will enjoy. I have always wanted to see him in concert. He’s one of my all-time favorite performers.

I have seen some really neat people in concert. Here’s a quick list of them. (In somewhat of the right order I saw them.)

Jim Stafford

The Blues Brothers (w/ John Belushi & Dan Akroyd)

Barry Manilow

Jerry Jeff Walker

Manhattan Transfer

Barry Manilow

Diana Ross

Hall & Oates

Ann Margaret

Olivia Newton John

Barry Manilow

Kaye Starr (4 Girls 4)

Rose Marie (4 Girls 4)

Rosemary Clooney (4 Girls 4)

Helen O’Connell (4 Girls 4)

Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme’

Kenny Loggins

Simon and Garfunkel

Sammy Davis, Jr.

Anne Murray

Billy Joel (soon)

(2021 comment - Neil Diamond w/ Barry J)

I would say that this is a pretty good selection of talented people.

I just found out that Bryant, my brilliant, talented, sweet brother won a court case for Ross Perot (one of the richest men in Dallas.) After his opening speech, the other lawyer told the judge that the case could be settled in his chambers, and then proceeded to tell the judge that he was giving it up. Wow! That just proves how good Bryant is!

I hope I will be able to see him this weekend. He’s going over to Mom and Dad’s with the kids either Saturday or Sunday, and I would like to go also. I haven’t actually seen him since the holidays. (Christmas, that is.) I hope I do get to see him.

Wednesday

Well, this has already been somewhat of a mixed-up week. Saturday, the 4th, I found out that Kathleen and I are going to have to move. Our apartment complex is going to be torn down. It is going to be hard to find a two bedroom, two bath apartment for the cost of ours, with all bills paid. In fact, it may be almost impossible. I think we’re going to have to be prepared to pay more. But I don’t see how I’m going to pay for everything. It won’t be too long that I’ll have to pay for my couch and chair.

Thursday

I just found out from calling Englenook Apt. complex that it was definitely a rumor about the apartments being torn down. Apparently, someone got angry with the manager or something, and started the rumor, and already some tenants have moved out. I’m SO glad. I really like where I am, and wouldn’t mind staying until I get married.

Speaking of that, Barry and I were talking, rather lightly, at his house last night about a honeymoon, and we were thinking that California would be a neat place to go for a honeymoon. Of course, I would NOT got to California without going to Hollywood. Even though San Francisco would probably be better for a honeymoon. I wish they were closer together. But they’re not! I guess Hollywood, Los Angeles and Disneyland would not be a shabby honeymoon. Not in the least. That is if we could afford it. I sort of would rather wait and get married when we can really afford a GOOD honeymoon, instead of taking a lousy one too soon.

I do just love Barry! He’s my sweetie! Today is our 5th month anniversary of dating steadily. Six months of dating casually. But we count it as our 5th. Do I love Barry? Yes, I do!

Turn the page and find out how much I love him.

Friday

9:45 a.m. - I just got off the phone with Dad. It seems Bryant needs to talk to Mom and Dad and they’re going to the cabin tonight (with the kids). I sure wish I could go, but in the long run, it would be better if I didn’t. First of all, Bryant may feel inhibited to talk with me around. Secondly, I’d have to come back about 3:00 or 4:00 tomorrow afternoon in order to make it to Barry’s on time to go to his grandmother’s (Nanny) at Lake Tawakoni. I guess it would be too complicated and confusing. I would like to go to the cabin, though.

Sometime I would liek to go for a whole weekend by myself (well, with Mom and Dad). Barry seems to always take offense to that though. I wish he wouldn’t, it’s just sometimes it’s good for me to get away and think. I wish I could make him understand without upsetting him. I do love him and want him to always know that. But as a great Chicago song says, “Everybody needs a little time away, just for a day from each other. Even lovers need a holiday, far away from the one that they love.” I agree with that immensely.

But going back to Bryant, Dad said they’re down to the nitty gritty (Therese and he) and he had to tell Mom and Dad about it. God! Please don’t let them get a divorce! In my opinion, the only valid reasons for divorce is adultery, any kind of abuse (child or spouse) and committing some sort of serious crime. I could almost forgive adultery, once, and only once. I’ve heard of too many people (whom I considered to have good marriages) that one has had an affair (usually the man) and managed to remain happily married. What about the kids? God, I hope Therese stays where she is. If she moves to Corpus Christi, I think I’ll die. Will Therese take the kids to Corpus for holidays? I will die! Especially not my sweet, precious red-headed buddy pal.

3:40 p.m. - I am feeling much better than this morning. Garla andI went to the library during lunch and I checked out “Play it Again Sam” video cassette. Barry and I will watch it tonight. Maybe Kathleen, Sherri and maybe Randall too. I think I might invite Sherri to spend the night. She hasn’t in months.

4:06 p.m. - I just invited Sherri. Well, at least I told her mother that I would like for her to spend the night.

Mary just called to see how I am doing. I sure do love her! She’s so sweet. It seems like the older I get, the closer we get. I guess we have more and more in common all the time.
