Newly engaged here

Around my Birthday

On Left Alene took this in March 1989

Snowy day at 1545 Elizabeth Dr. - Feb 1989

Things at Blockbuster are quickly going downhill. It really started when they changed my position or really, boss. The first boss was Brad and though he cussed a lot, he was a good boss and always fair. Then they changed me to John Ellis who was the primary movie booker - which means I helped pick and book the movies. Sounds great, right? No - he found fault in almost everything I did and yet while he went out of town (Florida meetings all the time which is a big foreshadowing) a lot and I kept/held everything together. I did his job and mine and stayed late every time he was out of town.

The problem was when he came back, I had less and less to do. He would ask me what to do here or there/ask me to teach him how to book the movies, etc. and the next thing I knew I didn’t have anything to do. I had made my job practically obsolete. I should've typed up journals and just “look busy” but he saw me on the phone a few times. (Truth is, everyone was looking for work to do.. So on their phone a LOT) Who knew the writing on the wall? It WAS Blockbuster… (less than 1 year later, they moved their corporate offices to Florida.)

Anyway, John took me in the office after a long day helping him load boxes and book for the next 2 months, and said he was letting me go. The job is no longer needed..

NEWLY ENGAGED AND NO JOB!

(I remember Bryant sweetly calling me and he was really worried.. - guess Mom and Dad had told him I lost my job.. I said "Oh, I'm fine - about to go to Town East with Keith.")

Blockbuster did call me and offer me something in another department. I declined.

Next thing I signed up for secretarial work in a couple of Temp agencies. I had plenty of work til my wedding and honeymoon. I also decided to move home and save as much money as I could. I had my piano and cat, Tisha, moved to Keith's house. To quote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang "Now Mr. Wallick, you will HAVE to marry me!"

Card I wrote to Keith after MUCH anguish and over analyzing about our marriage, etc.

(Foreshadow - the styrofoam peanuts are forever embedded on this card... from our wedding)
