Monday

Last Friday at work and this weekend were very interesting. I don’t know if I could say I had a wonderful weekend, some parts were excellent. But for the most part, I was exhausted.
To make a long story short, last Friday at work, after 2:30 p.m. or so, Mary Faye’s business phone rang. It was for me. I surprisingly answered the phone and it was Carle Howell, a man who works on this floor just across from Arnold. Anyway, this is a man who’s a friend of mine who is interested in theatre and all of the arts. We talk shop quite a bit. Well, he was telling me about a play he’s directing called The Shadowbox at The Plano Community Theatre. I’ve seen Plaza Suite there. Anyway, he asked me if I wanted to go to this and I said sure. Then he said there will be a cast party afterwards and he’d like me to go that that also. Well, I was tickled to go, even though I thought it strange because cast parties are usually exclusive to cast only and possibly one guest for each member. Right after I said I’d go, Carle said rather quietly, “Have you heard that I’m in a process of a divorce?” I gulped and became rather silent. I then said (I never know what to say in these situations like this) “Oh, dear.” which was probably a stupid thing to say. Then I quickly said “And, can I bring some people like I did last time?” On this, “he” became silent and then said “Oh, sure.” Shortly after, I got off the phone. Well, I went straight over to Karen’s desk, relayed the conversation and asked what she thought of it, meaning if she felt it was an invitation as his date or not. Well, she quickly laughed (Carle, by the way, is 40 years old and has two almost grown kids) and told LouAnn. I should have told LouAnn first. Next thing I knew Vicki knew and she confessed that she knew Carle was going to ask me out for some time. Carle's assistant, Deborah, told Vicki. Oh, it became worse all the time! Before the end of the day, LouAnn and Karen actually told Mary Faye. That rather pissed me off. (LouAnn called me later at home and explained that it was really accidental that Mary Faye was told.) OH! I decided to forget it.
That night, Kevin and I visited with Sherri and then Kevin and I went to Judge Bean’s to eat. After eating, we picked Sherri back up and walked over to Memorial Stadium and watch part of the S.G. homecoming game. They lost against North Mesquite.
I was awakened Saturday morning at 10:00 sharp by Arnold on the telephone. We needed to find out the time we were supposed to be at Mom and Dad’s to leave for Steak & Ale. This would be Arnold’s first time to meet them. I told him we needed to be over at their house by 7:00. We talked quite a while and I told him about Carle. He didn’t seem too shocked, jealous or anything you might think. You really never know with him. Only one time he sounded a little serious, but he was saying “That’s all I need, is to have someone else leave me for a 40 year old man.” (His previous girlfriend is now married to a 40 year old man. ) (2021 comment -- but he DATED her for 11 years… that might have been the biggest trouble of all)
Steak and Ale with Mom and Dad went pretty well.
(2021 comment - not sure if I say it later - but Mom and Dad didn’t like - care for Arnold… and as it changed my mind in 1984 from Randall to Barry, it deeply affected my relationship w/Arnold - BUT I remember feeling very confident that evening and when we got back to their house, we said our goodbyes and thank you's and Arnold put the top down on his convertible and we rode home.. at THAT point, I was totally comfortable and happy )
October 20, 1985 - Bill Flynt came up with an idea to show a silent movie (a real one) and do a show revolving around it. I was basically the "bouncing Janie." We ended up doing this for many charities, Scottish Rite, Mason Lodges, etc. not to mention a few churches here and there. It was SO fun! We did this for many years!

Monday
This past weekend was very eventful and fun, fun, fun!
FRIDAY - I hurried home and got ready for my Halloween Costume party. It was co-hosted by Robert. We had a good turnout. I’ll make a list of who was there and what costume they had. There were three prizes given for Best Costume.
Robert Bevis - Clown (unusual one)
Sherri Carpenter - Ladybug (my personal favorite)
Me - Flapper
Arnold - 20’s gangster
Scott Munoz - Hawkeye Pierce
Bill Hollomon - Combination of Hot Lips and Private Benjamin
Nancy Munoz - Hooker (2nd prize)
Kevin Quattlebaum - Punker (3rd Prize)
Nancy Quattlebaum - Punker (1st Prize)
Charla (Nancy’s friend) - Lilli Munster
Keith (Charla’s fiance’) - Merlin (Arnold’s personal favorite)
Keith Rice (Dracula)
Shane Tunnell (Monster)
Kathleen (didn’t dress up)
Kenneth (on bus) - (First pregnant man)
Mike - (not sure who HE is - High school bandee)
Eric Foster (Groucho Marx)
Eric’s cousin, Chester (A doctor)
(wish I could remember who Kenneth was??)

Robert Bevis on bottom (I believe at this point, both Sherri and Robert lived in same apartments as me - Pecan Knoll)
There are two girls here I have no idea who they are

Arnold in middle - his eyes were closed (he was sick I found out later)

(Arnold on left - very sick.. He and I were 1920's flapper and gangster)
The whole evening was fun. At one point, I felt left out; at least felt out of being with Arnold. But I found out later that he felt left out altogether. He also was very sick. We talked all this out later after the party. It’s hard for me to mention stuff like that but with Arnold, it’s not quite as hard; and I always feel better after I do. And I did. At one point, though (at my apartment) I caught him smiling. When I asked him why he was smiling, he said that was just a natural reaction when he’s with me.
SATURDAY - I went over to Mom and Dad’s and saw them off for England. They left about 2:30 or so. I talked to DeeAnn later at my apartment on the phone and she told me how Arnold is like Brian in the fact that they’re both basically shy and like to be in control of themselves and that probably Arnold wasn’t in complete control at my party and felt uncomfortable (besides the face that he was sick.) I felt a little guilty.

That evening Arnold picked me up at 4:30 and we headed for Midelothian to a dude ranch that was sponsoring a party for A&A. That was a lot of fun. Arnold was great that night. It took him a little time to warm up, but not much. (What I mean is being obvious about his affection for me.) We ate bbq. The whole night was a blast. I felt SO incredibly warm towards him. I just couldn’t quit looking at him. We sat with Joe Kleinrichert and his wife, Kelli. I thought since I subjected him to my friends Friday night, we’d sit with HIS friends Saturday; and I’m glad we did. They were a lot of fun. But the REAL fun had not started yet…
Before the night had ended, I managed (or should I say Karen, my friend at work) to get us to dance. Joe and Kelli had left about an hour before us, so we sat with Karen, LouAnn, Vicki, Mima and their spouses. It was fun. Earlier, I had danced with Art (LouAnn’s hubby) and John Matus. But, as always, I LOVE to dance with Arnold. I think I’m crazy about him. We left about 10:55. Everybody had mostly left by then. The fun was yet to come …

On the way home, I felt wonderful. I couldn’t keep from touching him, whether holding his hand, leg or rubbing his neck. He just felt so good to me.
(he was SO from Chicago, he wouldn't dress Western - he's barely on the right of me)
