She's Like the Wind

Sorry I haven’t written in a long time, but I have been terribly busy. Let’s see if I can catch you up on everything.

First of all, the week before last I had a vacation. I went with my mom, dad and Aunt Clara to El Paso, Tucson and New Mexico. Two days in El Paso to visit with my mom’s Aunt Julia and cousins.

I think my favorite day was in El Paso with cousins, Judy and her husband, John, their 11 year old son, John and my Aunt Julia. She is an 81 year old who just had three paintings entered into the El Paso Museum of Art. Isn’t that something? She’s precious.

(2022 comment - for anyone who might know - the beautiful green/forest/woodsy painting at our cabin with 1 deer was Aunt Julia's … I had it in my bedroom at home for years.)

The next day on to Tucson to visit with my Uncle Walter (Mom’s beloved oldest brother), and his lovely wife Aunt Wilma. I always thought he was so handsome and quite dynamic. His name was Walter and I swear he reminded me of Walter Cronkite. Such a charismatic man with a DEEP voice! (I had a fondness for the Moseley men.)

Arizona was a strange, oddly beautiful place. We took a drive through the Sequoia Desert National Forest. It eerily felt spooky - like the cacti were leaning down to grab you.

The next day we went to a place called “Old Tucson” where a bunch of movies have been made and many western t.v. shows. Right up my alley, right? The newest movie made there was Three Amigos and t.v. shows like High Chaparral, Little House on the Prairie, Gunsmoke, etc. I never heard of

it before and it’s really authentic movie sets.

From there we went to the White Sands in Alamogordo and a space center with an Omni Theatre, then uup to Cloudcroft, NM and spent the night in a cabin with a fireplace. It was fun.

Above is pic of mini-golf course under snow. In 1976 - summer... we went on a family vacation to Cloudcroft with Mom, Dad, me and Alex. It remained one of Dad's fave vacation spots. So beautiful and quiet. (Went later with Keith, Andrew and Emily - 1996..)

This was my Uncle David and Aunt Edna's house in El Paso where they lived all thru my childhood days (esp. elementary) - I remember seeing the moon launch here in '69. We used to go to El Paso for part of our vacations and go in to Juarez for the day (back when it was safe.)

When talking to relatives, etc., I talked about my job a lot. After telling what all I do, I started realizing how much I like my job. I like the people, work and time off. It was an important realization.

I came back from the trip (at work) only to find there has been a freeze on salaries. Isn’t that just the way it is? Just about the time I feel extremely good, no raises. Oh maybe I should quit, but it’s so comfortable. I hate looking for jobs. I’ll stay put for a while and look at the paper, but not too seriously.
