JULY 9, 1984
Monday
I had a very good weekend as usual.
FRIDAY - I went over to Barry’s house for dinner (barbecue) and we played three games of badminton. That was a lot of fun.
SATURDAY - I went over to Mom’s for most of the day and Mary and Holly came over because their air conditioner broke down. I stayed over there until 4:45 p.m. and then went back home where Barry came shortly and later Kevin. We had a leisurely time at home and watched Eddie and the Cruisers and An Evening with Robin Williams. They were enjoyable.
SUNDAY - Barry and I went to Six Flags. It is definitely one of the very best times I have ever had, if not the best. We watched all the shows in the hot daytime and rode most of the rides at night. We were there from 11:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. My favorite ride is the Roaring Rapids. The crowd was nil compared to what it is normally like. I do love my Barry. He’s so much fun and so easy to get along with. I’ve been to Six Flags with some uptight people in my time (mainly Cam Craig.) But then I don’t want to ruin a good day’s writing because of him. So I’ll shut up!
I wish Mary would go on and have her baby. She’s really becoming impatient for that little thing to come out. She bets she’ll have to have this baby induced; maybe around Monday they’ll induce labor.

Friday
I just found out that Mary and John had another little glorious event. A sweet little girl named (are you ready?) Caroline Jane. (After me.) TEE HEE! I haven’t seen her yet, of course, she just had it about 1 ½ hours ago. But I know at first everyone wanted a boy; but I am really glad she’s a girl. I Feel so delighted and thrilled that she’s healthy and pretty and sweet. My precious Barry is quite excited over this whole ordeal. I think he feels like this is his first niece (since he’s been around as long as the baby has, and a little longer.) He’s really enchanted by the whole process. (Of course he’s pretty partial to John and Mary.)

Friday
Today is Melba Johnson’s birthday. (Barry’s mom.) We bought her a strand of simulated pearls. They’re very pretty. We’re going over there tomorrow night to celebrate.
I still haven’t been over to see my new niece yet. Mary’s immediate family are waiting around until all of John’s family has come and gone. I long to hold her.
This morning, James Mason died. He must have died of natural causes, because they just found him in his apartment dead. I really loved him. He’s so distinguished.
