1980’s! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!! (The Single Years)

January 23, 1980

I know I said it a while back, that I won’t ever write again. Well, I was wrong! I may never stop! I thought I’d write today & tell you what’s going on in the world with me & the nation. School’s great! I’m still mad (love) about Tracy.

That’s about it with me. The world right now is in many a crisis. First of all, Paul McCartney has now been in jail for 7 days in Tokyo. (For smuggling marijuana). The Iotolah is still holding the 50 people hostage. It looks like W.W. III, & I’m scared to death! Of course, I’m not letting anyone know, but I am. Carter is debating whether or not to draft women. I’d get pregnant quick. I know that sounds awful, & I’m a nice girl, but I don’t intend to go to war. If I do, I’ll join the air force. I’ve always wanted to jump out of airplanes with a parachute. I’m not the type for fighting in a war. I’d rather commit suicide than kill another human being. Iranian or not. I couldn’t live with myself. Maybe I won’t have to go because of my epilepsy. Hey, that’s a thought! Day before yesterday, the Iotolah had a heart attack, I hope he dies. Did you know he’s 79 years old? I didn’t realize he was so old! Maybe he’ll die off. The Winter Olympics will probably be cancelled because of all this. Pres. Carter said that he refuses to support the Olympics if there at Moscow. I Feel sorry for all the athletes who have trained for this so long.

This weekend, B.C. (Bryant), Therese & Margaret are meeting us at the cabin. Which by the way, the cabin has a brand new room built on it. We also redid the kitchen, & are working on the bathroom.

The best movie I’ve seen in a long time is “Kramer Vs. Kramer” with Dustin Hoffman & Meryl Streep. I loved it. I also saw Star Trek, The Jerk (Steve Martin) and “The Muppet Movie”. Here’s the 1979 movies I’ve seen & how I rated them.

1) Starting Over - with Burt Reynolds, Jill Clayburgh, Candice Bergen **

2) “Norma Rae” with Sally Field, Ron Liebman & Pat Hingle, I rated it ****

3) “A Little Romance” - with Laurence Olivier, Sally Kellerman. I rated it ****

4) “The Jerk” - with Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, I rated it ** ½

5) “Star Trek” - with William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy, I rated it ***

6) “Dracula” - with Frank Langella & Laurence Olivier - I rated it *** ½

7) “Alien” - with Ian Holm and I rated it **

8) “Frisco Kid” - with Gene Wilder & Harrison Ford, I rated it **

9) “Villian” - with Kirk Douglas & Ann Margaret, I rated it *

10) “Muppet Movie” - Kermit the Frog & Miss Piggy, I rated it ** ¾

11) “The Champ” - with Jon Voight, Faye Dunaway & Ricky Shroeder - I rated it *** ¾

12) “The China Syndrome” - with Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas & Jack Lemmon - ** ½

13) “Kramer Vs. Kramer” - with Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, & Justin Henry, I rate it ****

January 30, 1980

Today I was in an especially good mood. Despite this past weekend, I’ve been in an excellent mood this week. Of course, Monday the 28th, was my 19th birthday. I had probably my best birthday this year.

Friday my gang - Scott Munoz, Vera Lyons, Sherri Carpenter, Kathleen Kirby & Cindy Lacy & Alex went to Filling Station restaurant & celebrated my birthday. It was a blast! Later, we toured Dallas. We walked everywhere! They paid for all mine. (2020 comment - probably bad taste, but this is when we went to the Grassy Knoll and recreated the assassination. I was Dad filming it) - FREE stuff to do for college kids......

I saw Margaret this past weekend. She’s cuter every day.

For my birthday, I got a green, puffy coat (stylish) Main Event album, and I’m still getting 2 more gifts. Mom & Dad are gonna get me a couple of song piano books & Mary is taking me to Electric Horseman. Mary is taking me since she’s living at home now. She & John are separated. The whole house is uneasy. Especially Mom & Mary.

I hope they work it out. I don’t want a divorce in our family.
