I went to church even after staying up sooo late the night before (well, we DID get that extra hour of sleep!)

After church, our group went to the Black-Eyed Pea for lunch. I couldn’t stay too long because LouAnn (Campbell)’s daughter, Susan, was having a bridal shower and I had bought her a sexy teddy ;) I also really wanted to see LouAnn. I hadn’t seen her but once since I quit A&A and started Blockbuster.

Keith and I again sat by each other - with Louis on my left, once again. Our gaze stuck a few times, and I looked down at my newly manicured nails, smiling. But then... I had to LEAVE. I didn’t want to…

(This next part is SOOO like a scene from a movie)

I begrudgingly told everyone Goodbye and slowly went out to my red, Buick Skyhawk. I practically dragged my feet across the parking lot, occasionally wistfully looking back at the restaurant, still holding the gift.

Then before I completed my path to the car, I felt someone strongly grab my shoulders and turn me around. I literally dropped the package/gift. He (if you don’t know who it is, it was Keith) kissed me! Strongly and passionately. Keith then said, “Don’t go to the shower, come to my house.” I obeyed gladly. I truly can’t remember the rest of the day, just know it was calming. Tranquil? Well - I’m trying to say we were fully at peace.

I went back to work and told everyone we were back together! No more qualms, no more questions. I can’t explain the level of peace I felt.

That night, Chris or whatever his name was, (so sorry nice guy) called to ask me out for the next weekend. I, maybe too excitedly, told him Keith and I were back on/back together. I think that might have been the shortest conversation of my life. CLICK - ooookay…. I enjoyed a quiet Monday night as Keith was at work.

November 1, 1988

(Tuesday)

I was excited to get off work and head straight to Keith's house. I love hanging out there even with his roommates. Don, almost always hangs out with us, watches tv, etc. His other roommate is Ken (Don’s brother.) He is always out and about and is dating a girl named Sonia. So, we don’t see him much. Ages ago, he used to hang out with Scott Noack and was at the Austin events a time or two.

(2022 comment - Two strange things concerning Ken. He did marry Sonia and the first house they bought together was 2627 Larry Dr. in Garland. I don’t expect that to be familiar to you, Reader. But it was where DeeAnn lived for most of her life and when I was over there, spending the night so much in high school and a bit beyond. So weird/coincidental)

  • Also, a horrific story that is still hard to tell. Years later after coming home to help his parents - after living in England with Sonia and their son, Noel, Ken and his sweet family were leaving their apartment to go check out their newly bought home.

They were leaving the Richland college area - Abrams & Walnut, when they encountered construction. When they pulled over to let a honking car pass, the car flew around them and shot (once or twice) at Ken's car. His wife, Sonia was driving and Noel (then 7 yrs old) was in the backseat. A bullet blew right past Sonia and hit Ken in the head. He died later that night.

Another murder unsolved. They had it on the news for over ten years as unsolved crime. Never to be solved. So sad for Don and his lovely family.

NEXT Sat - Nov 4, 1988 - We had our first “back together” date. We saw Crossing Delancy with the Pickle MAN! (uh - a grocer?) very, very cute movie! It was quite apropos' - relating to us in many ways. I liked that it felt like a FIRST date.

(2022 comment - This movie, Moonstruck and A Room with a View spoke to me the most about waiting for the right "one." - not just what makes sense in your head.)
