We left shortly after the graduation (about 1:00) for Washington D.C.
We arrived in D.C. about 6:00 or so. D.C. was truly a beautiful city. We saw all the monuments by moonlight. It was really impressive.
Check receipt for Motel in Long Island, D.C. Treasurer for toll bridge (that was unexpected)

and me eating dinner with John on our first night in D.C.

Skyline Drive was a beautiful scenic route from D.C. thru Virginia. We also went to Smithsonian where I saw Dorothy's shoes, Mr. Roger's sweater, Archie Bunker's chair and also the Wright Bros. Aviation/flying exhibit - which was really interesting!

JUNE 30, 1986
Monday
This past weekend was fun. Of course. John was there, right?
FRIDAY - We went to his house and had pizza. His father went out to mow, and then, for some reason, his mom, John and I got into a really good conversation. It started with John not ever wanting to get an apartment and me defending myself because sometimes you just can’t afford anything else, but your independence is very important. Anyway, it meant a lot to me that we talked especially after Jeannie (John’s mom) questioned John about me and our sex life. Little by little, she’ll find out that I’m a good girl. I know they like me but it’s hard for her, I’m sure, with me being a 25 year old woman. How wrong she is, right? I feel like an 18 year old girl most of the time. She ought to know I have a good head on my shoulders now.

Later around 9:00 p.m. (we had talked for a couple of hours) John and I went and saw Running Scared. It was pretty good. I really like both Billy Crystal and Geoffrey Hines. We’ve really been catching up on our movies.
SATURDAY - I spent until noon by myself, went to a voice lesson then over to John’s. That day he helped his dad put up a fence and his mother and I stayed inside and talked for about 2 ½ hours. That was great. The more we talk, the better. I completely feel comfortable around both of them now… oh, how that is important. If she didn’t know before, she ought to know now that I’m a good girl. (2021 -geez Janie, you’re not Eliza Doolittle - ha). She probably still could know that I’m a virgin. That would help to know that. For me and her. I’m just the type who needs respect from people, that’s one of the main reasons I AM a virgin, outside of the fact it’s just plain practical. You don’t want to get pregnant? Then say No. Believe me it’s hard for me, especially as much as I love John, but it’s worth it when one day I look in my daughter’s (or son, for that matter) eyes and say “I was a virgin. - I waited for the right person, and you can too.”
