August 1, 1982 Sunday

E well,, the nite has come & gone at last. What a wonderful, glorious nite was this?
V Only one of the most enjoyable nites of my life. To get to the point, Roger & I saw Evita tonite.
I My gosh! It was the best performance onstage that I have ever seen. Did I say I liked
T “Hello Dolly?” Well, not anything like this. Of course, the music hits me at home. Latin.
A Samba, rumba, tango, etc.
Before the show, Roger & I went to Spaghetti Warehouse & I had lasagne (he did too) & rose’. Um Um Good! We talked, talked & talked. He’s my very favorite person in the world right this very minute. I love him. I don’t have a thinking for him or anything, he’s just a doll. We agree on so many things. Anytime a group of us goes together, Roger & I stick close. (It used to be Robert & I) Of course, Roger goes back to school in September. :( He’s an art major (multi-talented)

I love life!
Especially music and Roger!
(2021 comment - Roger introduced me -and my parents - to EVITA by bringing the album over and playing it over and over. Dad came downstairs and said enthusiastically “What’s that? What’s that???” - We love our Brazilian/South American music!!) Oh thanks Roger Cook for introducing not only me but my parents - esp. sweet Daddy to Evita! Turned out Dad had a crush on her in the 40's (along w/Carmen Miranda.)

july 24 1982 - there was a Tacky party at Cam's. So much fun but I remember Cam had all the pics - so alas, none to offer here. It was so funny - and I remember Sherri, Robert and I walked around as Eunice (me, Momma-Sherri, and Robert as Ed - we stayed in character all nite). A couple of gals dressed with their bras and panties over their clothes. - wish I had the pics
August 21, 1982 Monday
I sure have been enjoying life lately. This mood started Friday nite 6th. I rode home on the bus, & while riding, tis guy next to me asked “Did you go to South Garland?” Of course I said yes. (He did too). We got to talking quite a bit. He graduated in 1977. He was in band, played the french horn. Anyway, he got my number & we went out for lunch today. We got along real well. Who knows, he may never call again, but he put a little spice back into my life & I’m thankful of that. (ugh Janie, why didn’t you write his name??)
Sherri & I went up to North Garland looking for Roger, & noticed the stage door was open. Both our minds clicked, & we got onstage and sang every song possible. Fun, Fun FUN!!
Life is FUN!

(Nana is in a nursing home, but she’s feeling better). We’re taking care of her dog, Nicole, I love Nicole!

Aunt Lois died today. (Dad’s sister-in-law). To say the least I’m sort of upset. Mom is a lot upset. (Aunt Lois was the wife of Uncle Allison - my dad's big brother)
Bill is 29 & Annie is 27, & both their parents have passed away…

Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1982
I had a very enjoyable day. First work went great (I mailed Craig Hayes, the guy on the bus, a thank you note for lunch.) Then I went to B.C. & Therese’s & visited with the kids. Margaret will start tumbling & ballet next week. Oh boy! After that, I went to the nursing home & visited Nana. We had a great talk. After I got home, the phone rang. You’ll never believe who it was? Well, it was Craig Hayes. Our minds must have been right along the same track. I’ve been thinking about him all day. And then he calls from A&M. He graduates in May with his masters. Anyway, we’re going out Friday to eat & then to see “An Officer & A Gentleman.” I CAN not wait!
YIPPPPEEE!
Also Roger’s coming in this weekend. Forget what I wrote last time. He’s just a dear friend whom I care deeply for.
October 4, 1982 Sunday
Let me catch up on what I can. First of all, Craig and I had a lovely time when we went out. I’m not pining over him in the least. If he called again, I’d go out with him, but no biggie.
Nowhere goes. If I had a choice who I could be with it, it would be Roger. I just don’t quit thinking about him. In fact Oct. 9-16 is my vacation and I’m spending the latter weekend with Roger in Commerce. He goes to East Texas (ET) State. I cannot wait!
Guess who’s moving back to Garland? Dee Ann. YEA! Next weekend she’ll be here for good. She was here this weekend, & we spent every moment together. She still is the best friend I’ve ever had. Dee Ann’s still seeing Tom steadily, but he moved to New Mexico & she won’t see him until Christmas.
The first weekend of my vacation just Dee Ann & I are going to the cabin. Not even Mom & Dad. That’ll be fun. Just girl talk. I can’t wait until one week for vacation!
Monday the 11th, Cam, Dee Ann, Sherri and I are going to the fair. I hope the odds will work out. I think it’ll be okay.
Gotta go to sleep!
I love the world & my people!
ROGER
Next to my family, Roger & Dee Ann are my two favorite people!

October 13, 1982 (Weds)
I’m on vacation. So far I have had a wonderful time. Dee Ann & I went to the cabin Saturday night (after Bryant III’s second birthday party). We came home Monday just in time for Sherri, Cam, Robert, Dee Ann & I to go to the fair. (We had a blast.)
Pics below are from Holly's 2nd bay (she & Bryant III were just two wks apart)

But I mainly tonight want to write about what Dee Ann told me earlier. Well here goes.
An era of my life has just closed before me. My dear, talented first love, Russell Blaisdell Simpson III, got married a couple of months ago. It’s rather strange. I’m not mourning or even feeling down, just a little thoughtful. There now is such a finalization to everything. I’ve always felt if he came to the door & asked me to come away with him, I would. I felt that way even all the way through. Tracy, Kevin & Carl. I’ve thought that recently.
II’ll be okay. But I suppose I ought to take our picture down from my dresser (from the Colonel Ball). Yes, I’ll fold it up & put it away with all my other vaguely remembered memoirs. (What a laugh)
Bye Russell! I loved you!!!!

Sunday
I just saw This Property is Condemned with Natalie Wood & Robert Redford. I am still crying over the movie & it’s been over for 15 minutes. God, it’s good! I love Natalie Wood. Her movies sure made a big impact on me.
Oh, I had a marvelous time at East Texas S.U. with Roger. We had a great heart to heart. I saw him today also. Next to Dee Ann, he’s just about my best friend. He’s a great listener.

Next Saturday is Halloween. I’m going as a daisy. (Robert is having a party.)
Roger - left, - Amy on rt (nun)

Okay these are pics from Halloween '82 - MY fave costume that year was Doug C as Tyle-Null - remember that in news?
Cam & Randy both came as Xmas tree and Xmas star - not knowing of the other's costumes. Pretty fun!! This is Rex Reynolds as Dracula

Sherri as gypsy and David?? in his Dad's Army uniform
(I also love the pregnant nun by Amy)
Randy, Dee Ann and Cam
holding their awards
(I was a daisy and I wilted 30 minutes into party - so no pic)
